Sooooooo... lets' say you've just reached the pinnacle of the movie profession. You've achieved all the hopes and dreams you've had your ENTIRE LIFE. You're Tom Hooper, director of "The King's Speech", and you're standing on the stage at the Academy Awards and a pretty girl has just shoved an Oscar into your hands because you have just been named Best Director. Best-freaking-Director!!! And then there's a million thoughts swirling in your head... but chief among them is surely - "I will now have the pick of all the best scripts in the world. My next project may well be the greatest movie ever made in the history of cinema!"

But then the next day, your manager calls and tells you he's lined up a gig to direct the next Captain Morgan Spiced Rum commercial. And you can make piles and piles of dough for very little effort. Hmmm... what to do, what to do... well, if you were Tom Hooper then you decided the next great American movie can wait a bit. Because he took that rum commercial gig.
Yup, here we see Tom Hooper as he helms the new Captain Morgan spot on the set aboard a 17th Century replica of the Galleon Andalucia in an undisclosed tropical location last week. Set in the mid-1600's, the campaign will – for the first time ever – feature the re-imagined history of legendary privateer and brand icon, Captain Henry Morgan. Their last campaign, we're pretty sure, featured incredibly gorgeous supermodel Marisa Miller who surely appealed to the key demographic of rum drinkers - but perhaps the lads were a tad more interested in just ogling Marisa than learning about the tipple she was selling.

At any rate, Hooper, who received the Academy Award for Achievement in Directing (Best Director) at the 2011 Oscars for The King's Speech in February, is obviously world-renowned for his riveting period pieces – one of the many reasons Captain Morgan engaged him to lead the new campaign.
"Both the scope and direction of this campaign are unparalleled for Captain Morgan," said Tom Herbst, Brand Director, Captain Morgan USA. "For the first time, we're bringing to life the mystery and intrigue surrounding Henry Morgan – a real-life privateer – and we are ecstatic to have Tom play an integral role in revealing an exciting new side of the brand."
The first in a series, the 60-second feature film production entitled, "DIVE," will debut on broadcast television in late May, with some of the tales debuting May 14th on the CaptainMorganUSA Facebook page and YouTube channel.
