Review: Queen Greatest Pix II

Again I searched on the site of my library for interesting Queen books, I ordered this one from Sneek's library to review for you guys. I borrowed my father's HD camera, made a ''photo studio'' by using white paper and have written a review for you, hope you like it!

The book is called Queen Greatest Pix II, the title makes me think of Queen Greatest hits II (remember that awesome commercial?) It must be a collection or something. I don't know the author, this is what the library says about the book

Queen: Greatest Pix II, compilation and designed by Richard Gray. Photography by David Bailey and others, 1991, pictures 23x23 cm. Pictures about the British popgroup.

Ok, alright, so the author is Richard Gray (I think), the pictures are sizes 23x23 cm (23 xm=9.01 inch) , I think they mean the biggest pictures... that's a nice size at all.

The book I got was actually really dirty and has been repared a couple of times, I think the quality of the cover must be bad, sadly enough... but alright, let's take a look on the inside!

Well, I am afraid to tell you guys this pictures are not really special at all. The quality is great, I can't deny, but this book is already 20 years old, and you can just find every picture easily on the internet nowadays, the  text in this book only tells us the year of the photo and the name of the music video, that's it!

I would not buy this book, the pictures are too common nowadays and there's no text.

Review: Queen photobook

Today a review about a Queen photobook by Denis O'regan, the official tour photographer of our favourite band. This book was from the library and Dutch, but I've translated some parts for you.

The cover: Queen: everything about, by their official tour photographer Denis O'Regan.

I ordered it via the library, it came from the libary in Dongeradeel (where the # is that?) and it's used many times (plus: much Queen fans have been reading it...minus: yuk!) 

The text and pictures are made by Denis O'regan, in the intro he tells how he became Queen-fan and their official photographer, really interesting to read  I can't deny, but I want Queen pictures!

Chapter 1: The first years


Some great pictures from chapter one:

In chapter one Denis tells us about the first Queen shows he saw at the time he wasn't yet their official tour photographer. There are som backstage photos and a lot of photos about Freddies outfits! He tells about the techniques Queen used live to make their concert the best ever!

Chapter 2: the second decade:

In chapter two Denis tells about the characters of the Queen members, he tells about Mott the Hoople and again about techniques on stage. A little part is dedicated to Freddies clothing. The part about the characters is my favourite.

Part 3: the last tour

In this chapter Denis tells -again- about live techniques and some facts about Queen, not really special facts by the way.  The pictures are great, the best chapter in this book in that way.

conclusion

This is a nice book to read and to watch the pictures, it does not have really special information or rare photos. That part gets 4 of 5 stars.

By the way, I have never seen a book before with such a bad quality of paper and an extremely bad lay-out. When I look at the information the library gives about the book, I see not every picture is made my mr. O'Regan himself! Weird isn't it? Lay out and quality just 1 of 5 stars.

I give this book 3 stars, because it's not really special at all, but nice to read.

Death on two legs is a song written by the anger of Freddie Mercury to their manager who swindlered the band and took the money. The intro of the song is really weird but changes into a great rock song!

Lazing on a sunday afternoon
A very short song (1 minute) but very beautiful and shows every part from Queen, and HOW? I love the guitar solo.

I'm in love with my car is a song written by drummer Roger Taylor. He's also singing this song, and his voice is perfect for it! Roger has a great voice for hardrock music.

You're my best friend is a song written by John Deacon for his wife. And luckily they're still maried!  It's a slow balled and it became a worldwide hit. I don't like this song really much, because I prefer hard rock.

'39 is a folk song written by Brian May. It is about the theory of ralitivity. Some astronauts come back to earth, for them it was a year in space, but on earth 100 years has been passed.

Sweet lady is a bad song. Skip it.

 Seaside rendezvous is a 50''s style song. It's romantic, and I don't like that. But the music is great.

The Prophet's song is 8 minutes long is a great song written by Brian May against the church. (Edit by Thirza: I actually don't think this song is totally against the church) It's good progessive rock with a weird intro and  3 minutes a-capella.

Love of my life is a ballad to Mary Austin, Freddie's girlfriend (He was bisexual, not gay) I absolutely hate balleds, but I like this one.

Good company is a 50''s style song, without electric guitar, but with an ukelele (?). It sounds nice but I want a guitar!

Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song of Queen ever!I love every part!

God save the Queen is the instrumental version of the British anthem. It sounds nice, but I don't get the point of it,

I think this album is great. Freddie's vocals are great and Brian May shows he's a great guitarist. Roger Taylor makes the album a little more rock and the basslines of John Deacon make this album 100%

Buy if: you like guitars, different styles and if you don't have any problems with man that get high notes.
Don't buy if: You don't like gay people (edit by Thirza: THIS IS NOT MY REVIEW, that is just a sick quote) or if you like older Queen songs.

Rate: (4/5) because nothing's perfect!
